RELEASE- TODAY 7:45 PM- Visual Event Held at 5th and Arch: Congresswoman Madeleine Dean and Congressmen Dwight Evans and Brendan Boyle, Advocates Rally for the Build Back Better Agenda and Taxing the Ultra-Rich

Philadelphia, PA—Today Congresswoman Madeleine Dean and Congressmen Dwight Evans and Brendan Boyle, hosts 99% PA and Tax March, and co-sponsors For Our Future PA, Tuesdays with Toomey, Indivisible Philadelphia, and ReImagine Appalachia, along with Philly’s own Positive Movement Entertainment Drumline, held a rally and light projection event at the U.S. Mint at 5th and Arch Streets. Together, they raised their voices and delivered a powerful message to Build Back Better: Tax the Ultra-Rich.

Jeff Garis, director of federal campaigns and head of the 99% PA campaign said, “The budget resolution that the House of Representatives adopted yesterday established the framework that will allow for once-in-a-generation investments in universal pre-K, tuition-free community college, paid family and medical leave for all workers, affordable housing, reductions in health care costs, and a sustainable and clean energy economy. We thank Congresswoman Madeleine Dean and Congressmen Dwight Evans and Brendan Boyle and every single one of their Democratic colleagues in the U.S. House and Senate for voting to adopt this budget resolution. We know that Representatives Dean and Boyle and Congressman Dwight Evans will be our champions on the House Ways and Means Committee, insisting that these transformational policies are paid for by making the wealthy and corporations pay their fair share, not by raising taxes on anyone making under $400,000 a year.”

Stephen Herzenberg, co-chair of ReImagine Appalachia, added, “The Build Back Better plan can restore shared prosperity and aggressively address climate change by recreating a Civilian Conservation Corps, investing in energy-efficient manufacturing, attaching labor and community benefit standards to federal investments, and delivering a fair share of funding to states like Pennsylvania that have lost more jobs and suffered more damage from extraction. Build Back Better is a practical path to a bright future for all of us.”

At the event, advocates shared the following message:

We thank advocates for joining us to demand taxing the ultra-rich so that we can build back better together! The ultra-rich and corporations have increased their wealth by millions and billions of dollars through generous tax breaks and loopholes. It’s time for the ultra-rich to pay their fair share so that all of us can have the things we need and deserve like good schools, affordable healthcare, safe roads, bridges, and highways, and more.

We put the spotlight on our demand for a bold recovery plan and taxes for the ultra-rich. Thanks for lending your voice to this extraordinary event. Together, we raised our voices and delivered a powerful message to Build Back Better and Tax the Ultra-Rich with a spectacular people’s light show as dusk fell over the U.S. Mint.
