This paper examines the roles between property taxes and public education in Pennsylvania. Eliminating school property taxes, as some lawmakers propose, would harm Pennsylvania’s public schools and would be a radical step unjustified by the facts. Instead, lawmakers should ensure that property taxes are applied more uniformly and provide targeted tax relief for seniors and working families with higher-than-average property taxes.
