With 17 million children with pre-existing conditions no longer being denied coverage, 3.6 million seniors saving on their prescription drugs, and 2 million small business employees securing coverage thanks to tax credits, there are plenty of reasons to say, “Happy Birthday, Affordable Care Act!”

Two years ago today the landmark law was enacted, and it is already having a positive impact on the lives of millions of Americans. Families USA has an easy-to-read fact sheet outlining ways that everyday people are benefitting from the law right now. To name just a few:

  • Your insurance company can no longer arbitrarily drop your coverage simply because you get sick.
  • Your insurance company can no longer place lifetime or annual limits on your coverage.
  • If you are under 65 and in a new plan, you are now receiving free key preventive health services, such as mammograms and colonoscopies.
  • Seniors are benefitting from free preventative health services and free annual wellness visits.
  • Young adults can now stay on their parents’ health plans longer, and children under age 19 can on longer be denied coverage by an insurance company for having a pre-existing condition.

Next week, the Supreme Court will hear arguments in a legal challenge to the Affordable Care Act. With so much at stake, take a minute to read the Families USA fact sheet and see how millions of Americans like you are already benefitting from this law, and the many more protections and improvements we will see as other provisions are fully implemented.
